MEET THE COUNSELOR: Mrs. Elvia Castillo

I am the new school counselor at F.P. Caillet Elementary. I am excited to join the team and to have the chance to work with every student individually, in small groups, and/or in their classroom.

For small groups, I send home a permission form that lets parents know what the topic is, what will be covered, and the goals of the group.

For classroom-based counseling, teachers sign up for units based on what they think the students need the most. Some topics include self-esteem, making and keeping friends, positive school behaviors, and bullying. Social emotional learning (SEL) includes Self-Management, Self-Awareness, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills and Responsible Decision making.

To receive individual counseling, a student is referred by their parent, teacher, or principal. Students can also request to see me. In my office, students can feel free to talk about what worries them and to ask questions.

I am here as a resource for your child through the school year. My goal is to help your child be successful both academically and socially through scheduled one-on-one counseling opportunities. Soy la nueva consejera escolar de la escuela primaria F.P. Caillet. Me entusiasma unirme al equipo y tener la oportunidad de trabajar con cada estudiante individualmente, de manera grupal, o en su salón de clases.

Para los grupos pequeños, envío a casa un formulario de autorización donde los padres saben cuál será el tema, qué se abordará y los objetivos del grupo.

Para la consejería en el salón de clases, los maestros escogen unidades temáticas según las necesidades de los estudiantes. Algunos temas incluyen autoestima, cómo hacer y mantener amistades, comportamientos positivos en la escuela y acoso escolar. El aprendizaje socioemocional (ASE) incluye autogestión, autoconciencia, conciencia social, habilidades para las relaciones y toma de decisiones responsable.

Para recibir consejería individual, el estudiante debe ser referido por sus padres, maestro o director. Los estudiantes también pueden solicitar una cita conmigo. En mi oficina, los estudiantes pueden hablar libremente sobre sus preocupaciones y hacer preguntas.

Estoy aquí para apoyar a su hijo/a durante todo el año escolar. Mi objetivo es ayudar a su hijo/a tener éxito tanto académica como socialmente a través de sesiones de consejería individual programadas.
